The Tuesday night gunmen attack on the convoy of Nasarawa
state's Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has been confirmed by the state's
commissioner of police, Bola Longe who revealed that he wasn't the target.
LIB reported earlier that three police officers and a
civilian driver were killed after the Deputy Governor's convoy ran into the
robbers who were operating few kilometres away from Akwanga at about 6pm.
Briefing newsmen after an emergency security meeting with
Governor Abdullahi Sule at the Lafia government house, Nasarawa state's commissioner
of police assurred the public of an intensified effort to arrest those behind
the attack.
Longe said: “It was not that the deputy governor was the
target of what happened. There was a robbery operation and the convoy of the
deputy governor ran into them and that was what led to the death of five
persons including four in the deputy governor’s security vehicle”.
“We want to emphasis that the elements that carried out that
attack would be fished out. We have started already and we will get there, we
will deal with them decisively so that they will know that Nasarawa state is
not a place for them to operate,” he added.
